OLDBURY
Status:
A township in Shropshire (Brimstree Hundred) and in Halesowen Ancient Parish, which was in Worcestershire and Shropshire until 1844 but entirely Worcestershire thereafter.
Oldbury transferred to Worcestershire (Halfshire Hundred) in 1844 for civil purposes. It was a separate Civil Parish in 1866 and a separate Ecclesiastical Parish in 1715. It was ecclesiastically refounded in 1841. Abolished civilly in 1966 part to West Bromwich County Borough (associated with Staffordshire) & Ancient Parish, part to help create Warley Civil Parish (associated with Worcestershire) & Civil Parish & part to Halesowen Municipal Borough & Ancient Parish [25]

In 1840 Christ Church was built to replace Oldbury Chapel (St Nicholas), which was very dilapidated and too small for a rapidly rising population. In 1992 two thirds of Christ Church was converted into offices and the worship area reduced but the church is still active within the Church of England.
