Descriptive Notes:
Norton was for
many years the headquarters of the Worcestershire
Regiment. The barracks were built in 1877 but closed some years ago,
now being
the site of private housing.Status:
Chapel in Kempsey Ancient Parish. A separate civil identity early and a separate Ecclesiastical Parish in 1781. Abolished ecclesiastically in 1961 to help create Norton with Whittington Ecclesiastical Parish [25]

Directories:NORTON by KEMPSEY, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of OSWALDSLOW, county of WORCESTER, 3½ miles (S. S. E.) from Worcester, containing 517 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Worcester, rated in the king's books at £2. 12. 6, endowed with £600 royal bounty, and £200 parliamentary grant.
